When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Even though the Covid-19 spread is vast in the U.S, and contrary to how some parts of the U.S are handling the crisis situation, the U.S and Canadian Universities have shown solidarity and compassion towards all their students during this crisis and have revealed how tough they are, offering an amazing support system for international students and delivering proper care for their physical and psychological well-being during this difficult time.

Our partner universities in USA and Canada are continuing to prove they are the best choice for international education. While some countries are asking international students to go back home to their country during this crisis, ANC Education along with our partner universities in U.S & Canada are taking extremely good care of our Sri Lankan students and are conducting a series of Webinars via Zoom technology to stay in touch with the students, and connect them with their parents while university advisors reassure parents of the situation at each university and the level of support and care provided for every international student.

U.S and Canadian Universities have taken strict precautionary measures to safe guard international students and offer a valuable support system for their health and well-being:

SUNY Albany, Northern Arizona University, Acadia University and other partner universities, and some which are located in New York and closer to the affected areas, have proactively re-located International Students into a Secure Hall of Residence with facilities to cook and providing single room accommodation to promote physical distancing.

All ANC transfer students in U.S and Canada remain indoors in a safe and secure environment, and are currently concluding their spring 2020 semester Online. As a precautionary measure all physical classes have been long discontinued in Canada and USA universities and most universities have adopted a Pass or Fail grading system for the spring semester, ensuring fairness to all students.

U.S/Canadian universities are not only providing the physical well-being but also the student’s Psychological well-being is well looked after by these universities:

Secluded parks are open for students for their daily walks & exercise.

Virtual fitness and Yoga classes are being conducted by universities.

Advisory services provided on eating healthy, staying connected with the outside world -while staying indoors and Tele-medicine services are provided around the clock.

Students who are soon to graduate are given Online Career Guidance/ Resume Workshops/ Career Fairs Online.

ANC Top Priority is the Well-being of our Transferred Students

ANC is working 24/7 to ensure our transferred students in U.S and Canada are being well looked after during this global Covid-19 pandemic. Our staff is well connected with our transfer students and their parents/ guardians and we are in touch with our Partner Universities in USA and Canada to provide the latest updates, government circulars and student related concerns being exchanged promptly, through this strong network.

“The extraordinary work being under taken to safe guard our Sri Lankan students and ensure their studies continue online without any delays while taking extremely good care of their health and well-being by our partner universities goes beyond our expectations. We are in touch with our U.S/Canadian partner universities and their commitment towards our students’ safety is remarkable” says Ms. Manouri Malalage, Head of ANC US & Canada Placement Team.

ANC concluded a series of Webinars connecting parents and their children with the university advisors. Mr. Jay Lewis & Ms. Courtney Luque, Directors at the Center for International Services at the Northern Arizona University as well as Algoma University met via Zoom Technology and spoke with over 20 Sri Lankan parents and reassured all the parents on their students’ well-being. Here are a few excerpts from parents and students:

“We as parents were able to clear our concerns through this Webinar, especially on the Covid-19 crisis and other educational concerns directly with University Advisors. It is a relief and helped ease our concern and worry during these uncertain times. Thank you to ANC for organizing the video conferencing and connecting parents with our sons and daughters to reassure us that everything is well”

“Our university is being super helpful and taking such good care of us, all our classes are online and we are not missing any lectures, we are allowed to stay in our rooms and the dining hall is open for meals. We are provided with all necessary supplies such as medicine and other items. Our professors are still on campus so that really is very helpful”
