Even though you are not planning to head to Canada for your university degree, there are many great reasons why you can still consider CPU as a pre-university programme since CPU is a well-recognized qualification at any Medical University worldwide.
What is CPU? – An 8 – 12 months program to all Sri-Lankan and Maldivian students to earn a Canadian high school diploma without travelling to Canada which saves thousands of dollars. Pre-University programme is for students who have completed O-Levels or AL’s of CCS/CCD. This means that you take this course before pursuing a degree at a university (hence, the word pre). Number of modules you have to take and the duration would depend on your previous exit qualification (O/L or A/L) through recognition of prior learning (RPL). CPU leads to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), which is awarded to Canadian students as the Pre University qualification to enter the universities of their choice.
Program structure and design? – All courses are designed and developed to meet all requirements of the curriculum of Ontario Ministry of Education. Upon the successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), students get the opportunity to pursue their journey of lifelong learning at any university of their choice around the world, provided they satisfy respective university entrance criteria. Students who complete the CPU Program and fulfill all requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma will be eligible for admissions to Medical universities in Canada, the UK and around the world.
Academic Structure of CPU? - Educational credentials obtained by students and awarding equivalent credits will be evaluated through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as per Ontario Ministry of Education. The OSSD program is carefully developed to exceed the curriculum and learning expectations of Ontario Ministry of Education.
Am I eligible to practice medicine in Sri-Lanka as a Medical Doctor? – Yes. In order to obtain the internship in Sri-Lanka, students are bound to pass the ACT16/ERPM examination provided that the SLMC minimum A-Level requirement of CCD/CCS is obtained. Therefore Students who meet the SLMC Minimum A-Level requirement but not the university entry criteria are eligible to join the CPU program and secure the internship in Sri-Lanka. This pathway ensures that student can apply to any Medical university of their choice and obtain the eligibility letter to practice medicine in Sri-Lanka.
