The reopening of schools in selected districts is likely to be delayed until a decision is taken in the first week of next month, Education Ministry sources said.

This was after officials ruled out the possibility of reopening schools on April 20 as previously scheduled.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus and the threat of it spreading in Sri Lanka, the Government last month decided to advance the April school holidays and announced that the next term will begin on April 20.

Education Ministry Secretary N.H. Chirananda said the re-opening of schools and the manner they get about with day-to-day activities would be based on advice by the health authorities.
