Those holding a valid student visa (D2/D4 visa) and E9 visa can enter South Korea, but must go through the two-week quarantine by paying 100,000 Korean won (about Rs 15,000) a day for the quarantine facility.

The South Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka said that its office has closed until further notice, but those with valid student visa and E9 visa can enter the country as Qatar Airways still operates the flights to Korea. Once Korean authorities confirm, the eligible passenger can self-quarantine.

For the D2/D4 visa holder who plans to enter Korea after the expiry date of the visa, he/she has to obtain a new visa. For D2/D4 visa holders whose duration of stay on alien registration card has already expired, he or she has to obtain a new visa.

“Under the Immigration Acts of the Republic of Korea, the Embassy of Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka does not have the authority to extend D2/D4 visa,” the embassy said. The embassy recommended valid E9 visa holders to contact their employer in Korea to maintain their visa validity.  Those holding E9 visa should go through quarantine as well.

“Under the Immigration Acts of the Republic of Korea, the Embassy of Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka does not have the authority to extend E9 visa. Those who have further inquiries regarding E9 visa are requested to contact the Bureau of Foreign Employment on hotline 1989,” the embassy said.
