The Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) Sri Lanka has just introduced a BSc (Hons) Cyber Security degree awarded by Staffordshire University, UK.

Cyber security has become a buzzword today given the importance of protecting data and preserving the integrity of computer networks.

Currently, cyber threats and crimes are increasing rapidly across the globe; mass scale data breaches, data leaks and hacks occur regularly. Cyber security has advanced to address these breaches and other security threats incorporating technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), social engineering, and data analytics.

The advent of cyber security has created lucrative job opportunities.

There is a growing demand for cyber security experts locally as well as internationally to protect organisations from data breaches and attacks. It is estimated that, within the next 5 years, 3,000 – 5,000 cyber security experts will be required locally while the global requirement is estimated at around 1.5 million.

Cyber security is one of the fastest growing career fields today because cybercrime has increased significantly; consequently, companies need qualified cyber security professionals to implement security measures and fight cybercrime efforts more than ever before.

Cyber security requires a thorough understanding of IT principles and the ability to apply security principles in new ways to counter new threats.

“We’re really pleased to introduce the BSc (Hons) Cyber Security programme at our School of Computing. The programme is offered by Staffordshire University in the UK which is ranked 37 in the Guardian University League Table 2020.

In short, the programme is designed to prepare you to embark on a career path to become a cyber-security professional.

APIIT has transformed more than one thousand students into highly sought-after computing graduates who make an impact on the organisations they work with. We look forward to helping you to achieve your dream of becoming a successful Cyber Security professional in the highly dynamic ICT industry.
