A group of Ruhuna University undergraduates joined hands with the Sri Lanka Navy this week to launch a coral farming and conservation project.

About 33 undergrads took part in the Navy’s training programme that sought to deliver basic knowledge of coral plantation and conservation. They worked in collaboration with the Navy to launch the project to protect and conserve the dying coral reefs off the Rumassala beach in Galle.

The training programme was conducted under the directive of Southern Navy Commander, with diving officers and sailors taking part.

The university students expressed their gratitude to the Navy for the training.
