Vibhajjavada Dhamma Sangayana, an initiative aimed at the continued sustenance of Buddhism, was held yesterday at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, with 5,000 monks being given digital copies of the Tripitakaya.

The Dhamma Sangayana was organised by the Labunorukanda Aranya Senasana in Anuradhapura under the guidance of Dharmacharya Ven. Mankadawala Sudassana Thera and Sasanadhipathi Shashrapathi Rajakeeya Panditha Ven. Kothmale Kumara Kassapa Thera.

The event saw several scholar monks discussing ways and means to preserve the original teachings of the Buddha.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the concluding ceremony and distributed digital copies of the Tripitakaya to the monks.

The President and the Prime Minister were presented the 10-year Vibhajjavadee Plan for the uplift of Buddhism. The plan also envisages the setting up of the “Theravada Dhamma Script Donation Fund” to provide Tripitaka Dhamma texts to temples around the country free of charge.

The Maha Sangha, including the Mahanyakes and Anunayakes of the Tri-Nikayas, former President Maithripala Sirisena, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, several ministers and MPs participated at the event.
