2 women arrested after video of them assaulting girl goes viral
View(s):Two women were yesterday remanded after they were arrested for beating up a 13-year-old girl in the Kotavehera area.
The incident went viral after a youth recorded it on his phone and posted it on social media. The post was picked up by television stations and other websites.
The suspects were the girl’s stepmother and her sister. One was a Grama Niladhari and she has been interdicted with immediate effect.
The video post showed one woman beating the girl with a cricket bat while the other was kicking her after tying her hands together.
The stepmother had reportedly assaulted the girl for divulging details about an illicit affair she had with a neighbour.
Nikaweratiya Magistrate Sasika Lakmali Dassanayake remanded the two women until January 16.
