Cabinet approved a Ministry of Education (MoE) proposal to establish ‘Inservice Advisors (IA)’ to raise teachers’ standards by training them to provide an efficient service.

Under the plan, the MoE will recruit 4,471 ‘IAs’ graded between the Teaching Service and the Principal Service, with a new salary scale prepared with the approval of the Salaries & Cadres Commission.

The ‘IAs’ will be first trained at the National Institution of Education (NIE), who will then train the teachers, with 1 ‘IA’ able to cover about 40 schools.

“If the ‘IA’ is experienced in teaching Science or Maths, he/she will raise the capacity of Science teachers from Grade 6 to GCE A/L by training them on new methods of teaching, measures on improving the quality of students etc.”, a senior MoE official said.

He said the ‘IAs’ will be part of the team with ‘School Inspectorates’ to visit schools and judge teachers’ performances, and submit reports every 6 months to the MoE.

Based on the reports, the MoE will take necessary action.
