All-Island Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament: Rush in those entries

As the annual All-Island Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament draws near, it’s time to rush in those entries if you haven’t done so already.

Being held for the 20th successful consecutive year, the tournament is organized by Sri Lanka Association of Senior Citizens.

The tournament will be conducted under two categories. Category “A” will be for the contestants who use the Collins Scrabble Words Dictionary and the winner will be awarded the Deshabandu Clara Motwani Memorial Cup. Category “B” is for the players who use more traditional words from the Oxford English Dictionary and the winner will receive the Rajathy Kandasamy Memorial Cup.

Prizes will be awarded for the best word score and best game score along with spot prizes at each of the games played.

Entry forms can be obtained from Indrani Athukorale, No.102/1, Dharamapala Mawatha, Colombo 07 (Tel:0112696993), Farida Akbarally, No.28, Clifford Road, Bambalapitiya (Tel: 0112582244) and during Friday gatherings of the Colombo branch of the Sri Lanka Association of Senior Citizens at St. Paul’s Church Hall, Milagiriya.

The entry fee is Rs. 900 and the closing date for entries is October 31. Late entries after November 3 will be subjected to a late fee of Rs.50.

The annual All- Island Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament will take place on November 10 at the Amethyst Room, Hilton Colombo with the registration starting at 7.30 a.m.
