Inter-Sussex Swimming Championships held on grand scale

The 13th annual Inter-Sussex Swimming Championships was held in a grand scale at the Sunil Jayatissa Sports Complex at Sussex College in Negombo yesterday. The five-lane swimming pool was in full of action with nearly 200 swimmers from 20 schools in the island-wide network competing for supremacy.

The event started at 7.30am with the registrations commencing at 8.30am, followed by a colourful opening ceremony that took place soon afterwards.

The day commenced with the Under-8 Boys and Girls 25-metre Kickboard event and followed with the Backstroke 25metre from Under-10 to Under-18 in boys and girls. A lot of interest drew with the commencement of the 25metre Butterfly Stroke for boys and girls from Under-10 to Under-18 age categories.

The day continued with the Individual Medley from Under-10 to Under-18 for boys and girls followed by the Breast Stroke 25metre events. The highlight of the day was the Freestyle 25metre from Under-8 to Under-18, the Open Individual Medley Relay and the Open Freestyle Relay.

Before the events of the day came to a close an attractive water ballet act by the Sussex students stole the limelight. K.A. Sunil Jayatissa, the Founder Chairman of Sussex College Network graced the awards presentation occasion as the Chief Guest.
