He pointed out that, those farmer communities he met in many areas of the country, strongly requested to end social menaces such as drug addiction, from their communities, as they cripple the farmer communities and the agriculture sector. He added, it is undoubtedly, the misuse of political power that has led to the wide spread of the drug menace in the country. Mr Dissanayake pointed out that there will be zero space for drug menace in a Government led by him.

The rally in Dambulla hosted a mass gathering of farmers. Members of the All Island Farmers’ Federation organised the rally.

According to local reports, these farmers marched across the township and rallied at the market ground in support of the NPP candidate.

Addressing the rally, Mr Dissanayake stressed that he will ensure a dignified life and a strong economy for the farmer community of the country.

“Today, the youth of the farmer community is uncertain about their future. The young men would rely on the income generated from three-wheel hires or, would prefer to accept a security job. This uncertainty has created a life of dilemma for young women,” he added.

“Members from all segments of the society and experts have got together today to change the country, to create a better future for the next generation. “We cannot pass this corrupt burden to future generations,” he added.

In this effort, he added, that the farmer community can extend a major contribution by being a part of the national movement.
