Prime Minister Ranil Wickeremesinghe yesterday said being in politics meant that he sometimes had to face false allegations.

Mr Wickremesinghe was addressing a rally in Jambugahapitiya, Wattegama, in one of the first public meetings to be held following Thursday’s special cabinet meeting where a proposal to discuss the abolition of the Executive Presidency was taken up .

The Prime Minister addressed the people after laying the first stones for the Kurundugangamada and Bokkawala water projects. He also placed the foundation stone for the Doragamuwa water project and declared open the new postal office in Kandy.

Meanwhile City Planning,Water Supply and Higher Education Minister Rauf Hakeem who also addressed the rally said the public have been given the impression that there is a dispute between him and the prime minister.

“The media has created this impression,” he said, adding that when he reacted sometimes to certain situations it was the prime minister who calmed him down.

He said a presidential candidate who would take the UNP to victory would be announced in the upcoming week.
