J’pura and Jaffna vie for supremacy

University of Sri Jayawardenapura and University of Jaffna will battle for the 13th Inter University Games 50-over Cricket supremacy when they meet in the final match to be played at the Rajarata University Cricket grounds this weekend.

In the first four quarter-final matches played last week Univrsity of Sri J’pura, Jaffna University, South Eastern University and Rajarata University emerged victorious to enter the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final University of Sri Jayawardenapura defeated Rajarata University while in the second semi-final match University of Jaffna beat South Eastern University, making their way to the finals.

Both semi-final matches commenced last Saturday and the first semi-final match between University of Jayawardenapura and Rajarata University at the Moratuwa Campus grounds had to stopped due to heavy rain. The match resumed on the following day.

University of Peradeniya 191 (49.4); University of Rajarara 192 for 5 wickets (45.1)

1st Semi-final: University of Jayawardenapura beat Rajarata University by 93 runs

University of Sri Jayawardenapura 190 for 9 wickets (50);University of Rajarata 97 (41.5)

2nd Semi-final: University of Jaffna beat South East University by 8 wickets

University of South East 125 (47.3); University of Jaffna 128 for 2 wickets (18.2)
