A 22-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the National Hospital this week, four months after he was knocked down by a car in Kirulapone, a coroner’s court was told.

The deceased was identified as L.S. Harshana, a sales assistant at a spare part shop in Malabe. He was a resident of Hanwella.

He was riding pillion on a motorcycle when the crash occurred on April 4. The car had taken a sudden turn to Robert Gunawardena Mawatha, colliding with the motorcycle. The rider of the bike was the owner of the spare part shop.

A police officer leading evidence before City Coroner M. Ashroff Rumi said that due to the impact, Harshana’s helmet was tossed away and his head hit the bonnet of the car.

He had undergone treatment for four months at the National Hospital.

Judicial Medical Officer Chandrani Pererea who conducted the postmortem examination said the death was due to the serious injuries occurred to the head.

The Coroner ordered the Thalangama police to produce the car driver in the coroner’s courts on September 10.
