View(s):

Desmond De Silva, Iconic singer and entertainer is celebrating a milestone, this year. With 55 years in the music industry, Desmond is still very much in demand at Ex-pat functions around the world and at home in Australia.

Desmond tells that he never forgets that it is his fans in Sri Lanka who have helped him gain popularity when he first started as a singer. Gifted song writers and musicians have given him great lyrics and melodies that have helped him make a career in music. He is very grateful to music greats like Wally Bastiansz who gave him permission to sing his songs that have become hits.

New music arrangements by Mahesh Dennipitiya have revived songs like ‘Yanna Rata Watey’ and ‘Yamang Bando’. ‘Sumihiri Paaney’ has become a cult song now and every event is never complete without Desmond’s rendition of the song. The audience participation is unbelievable and very heartening to Desmond who says that it keeps him wanting to give more and more.

Desmond and his wife Phyllis always wanted to celebrate this milestone birthday in Sri Lanka.

‘Celebration with Desmond’, the concert will come alive at the BMICH on August 31 at 7.00pm, not to be missed. It is not only a celebration of a milestone in Desmond’s life but Desmond and his wife are very keen to use the occasion to lift the spirits of Sri Lankans after the terrorist attacks in April.

Desmond has planned the entertainment with a lot of thought and reflection and will be taking his audience on a musical journey, bringing back hits from the gramophone era and of course his popular bailas. He plans to lift the spirits of each and everyone in the audience with the songs that they have come to expect from him. ‘ I plan to have them dancing in their seats’, says Desmond.

Desmond will be supported by an 8 piece orchestra led by Lasantha Kariyawasam featuring Mariazelle Goonetilleke and Ishan Bahar.

Tickets are priced at Rs 5000/-, 3500/-, 2000/-, 1500/- and Rs 1000/-.
