Top organic certifier to launch in Sri Lanka

Being accredited by DAkkS, Germany (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH) according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065, Mayacert is also affiliated with IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement). With an unblemished track history with no major compliance deviations, their certificates are well received all over the globe, the company said in a media release.
Holding a Mayacert Organic certificate will permit producers, processors and traders of organic industry to add value to their product. This ultimately results in increased market opportunities with a premium price.
“As the world’s appetite surges towards bio-products, Sri Lanka has been playing a key role in exporting authentic organic products like coconut, tea, spices, herbs/ herbal extracts, tropical fruits and vegetables with truly distinctive flavours and aromas. Local demand for healthy food is also on the rise, enabling small scale producers and processors of fruits and vegetables, rice and mushroom to access retails markets with their precious organic produce,” the release said.
Besides the popular crop based international organic certification schemes from Europe, US, Japan and Korea, Mayacert is also capable of assuring the compliance against some unique programmes related to smallholder producers (SPP Standard), marginalised women (Women’s Hand Standard) and biodiversity (Smithsonian Bird friendly standard). ‘Organic cosmetics’ is the newest addition to Mayacert’s extensive certification portfolio. While pioneering in organic bee honey certification, Mayacert is also into organic livestock assurance, mainly focusing on organic cow milk, organic chicken and eggs.
