The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) will, next week, host the 15th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM) in Colombo. This is the first time the meeting is being held in Sri Lanka, the Coast Guard said.

In the lead up to the HACGAM, the SLCG will host a multilateral Working Level Meeting (WLM) of Asian Coast Guard Agencies and a subsequent High-Level Meeting (HLM) on policy matters. The meeting will be held from July 8 to 11.

The four-day meeting will see 22 member states, regions and observers participating. The HACGAM originated as a Japanese initiative in 2004, and has been a leading platform for dialogue on regional maritime law enforcement coordination, capacity building and controlling unlawful activities at sea. The meeting is considered to be one of the main events in the regional maritime law enforcement calendar.
