The State of Emergency entered its third month, after President Maithripala Sirisena issued an extraordinary gazette notification extending it by another month effective from Friday.

A State of Emergency was imposed throughout the country on April 22, following the Easter Sunday terror attacks. It was extended by a month on May 22.

According to the constitution, the proclamation of the state of emergency is valid for one month. The proclamation or any extension of the state of emergency needs to be passed in Parliament within 14 days.
