Polonnaruwa residents turn to RTI over non-completion of highway

Thirteen residents, having gathered data from the Divisional Secretariat Dimbulagala, under the Right to Information Act have filed action before the Manampitiya Magistrate for non-completion of the highway between Aralaganvila – Kandegama in Dimbulagala of the Polonnaruwa District.

The plaint filed under clause 106 of the Criminal Procedure Code charges five public officers for causing public inconvenience by the failure to complete the project.

Rs 2,049 million had been budgeted under the decentralized budgetary allocation to the Road Development Authority in Polonnaruwa via the Presidential Secretariat in 2018.

State Minister Wasantha Senanayake who was the Chairman of the Co-ordinating Committee in the area and four other officials have been cited as respondents.

Attorney Gamini Guneratne appeared for the petitioners in this case.
