Dialog 5G South Asia’s fastest mobile speeds
View(s):Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, showcased download speeds in excess of 1.4Gbps using a commercial 5G mobile handset, the highest speed that has been achieved via a mobile handset in South Asia.
Mobile 5G services were demonstrated on the 3.6Ghz trial spectrum that the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) allocated for 5G pre-commercial trial, the company said in a media release.
This announcement follows Dialog’s demonstration of a fully standards based 5G mobile service for the first time in South Asia in March 2019, and the first standards based 5G fixed-wireless transmission in December 2018. Dialog today covers more than 90 per cent of the Sri Lankan population with 4G broadband and has been awarded the Ookla Speedtest as the fastest network in the country.
Implementing 5G will mean faster speeds for end consumers, as well as limitless opportunities to automate industrial and home environments.
