A house with a history, story and its own identity

It has history, a story and its own identity. The 200-year-old ancestral home of a prominent business family, Fox Jaffna in Kokkuvil, offers a new dimension of accommodation in the northern region.

The latest addition to Fox Resorts which prides itself on crafting personalised experiences for discerning guests who wish to step away from impersonal chain hotels and enjoy the finer moments of an intimate property steeped in history, the property has been used by both the insurgent forces and the military. The LTTE used it  as their headquarters, and built three bunkers, two within the property itself and one leading up to the beach and the Jaffna fort. The Government forces then used the premises as an office once they regained control of the northern peninsula.  Returned to its owners at the end of the conflict, it has been lovingly restored.

Interestingly, the owners have retained and converted two of the bunkers into art galleries showcasing never-before seen works of Sri Lanka’s eminent masters including those of the famed ’43 Group. Copies of paintings by George Keyt, David Paynter, Justin Deraniyagala and many more which belong to the owner’s private collection adorn the halls of the public areas, gallery and bedrooms.

The hotel is located mere minutes away from the city centre. Guests can enjoy peaceful and quiet surroundings in which they can unwind after a day full of business activities, sightseeing or visiting friends and family in Jaffna. The hotel swimming pool set in the lush gardens offers guests a soothing dip.

“Chef”, the resort’s multi cuisine restaurant, specialises in authentic Jaffna food. Specialties include Jaffna style crab curry, mutton “porial”, “vendiyakolumbu”, “kool” soup and a host of other mouth-watering delights.  Seafood enthusiasts will enjoy the daily selection of seafood, including crab, jumbo prawns and cuttlefish, caught fresh and prepared in the classic style that best captures its natural flavour. If you like hoppers, the milk hopper originated in Jaffna.
