Expert issues dengue warning
View(s):People are likely to face severe dengue this time round, warns an expert, as the spectre of dengue rises, with rains lashing the country.
It is most likely to be Dengue Virus 3 (Serotype DENV3), says Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. LakKumar Fernando, in an early call for all to be prepared to prevent a high incidence of dengue disease and death.
“The last epidemic in 2017 was from DENV2. This year, it seems as if the trend is DENV3 for which we do not have immunity,” he points out, while urging that a close eye should be kept on construction sites as they have turned into the ideal breeding grounds for the dengue mosquito.
