HNB PLC, Sri Lankan pioneers in the field of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), successfully hosted an awareness and financial capacity building workshop for its SME customers in the Uva and Sabaragamuwa region, recently.

The full day workshop was hosted under the theme of ‘Sustainable development to empower small and medium enterprise’ and focused on building knowledge and awareness among SME customers on subjects vital for SME business development including financial literacy, human resource management, resolving business challenges, ensuring compliance, raising visibility and improving supply chain management across their respective companies, a bank media release said.   “In hosting our capacity building workshops, HNB aims to further enhance the practical and technical knowledge of our growing SME client base. In this manner, we help them to drive greater sustainability into their businesses, while enabling improved performance competitive ability,” said HNB Deputy General Manager – SME and Midmarket, Jude Fernando.

The event was conducted by CLOUD Consultancies, a leading educational institute in Sri Lanka. HNB will continue this process in other regions as well in order to strengthen the financial knowledge of its clients.   Officials from the Colombo Stock Exchange also participated in the workshop, delivering a presentation on the importance of the CSE Empower Board for SMEs which is a newly introduced platform for raising capital and growth opportunities for the Sri Lankan SME sector.  Consequently, the exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission will be conducting a range of programmes among HNB’s SME customer base in 2019 to create awareness on the potential for such businesses to raise capital via the stock market. The seminar also focused on enhancing the knowledge of participants with regard to financial literacy, HR management, and compliance, while streamlining supply chain management.
