Student hit by train in Galle dies of injuries

A 16 year- old student from a school in Galle was hit by a train on the Mahamodara bridge, while he was returning home last Sunday after tuition classes, a coroner’s court was told. The boy was Hewage Buddhi Sepala from Bataduwa in Galle.

A friend of his who was with him at the time of the accident told court that his friend had slipped on the bridge and fallen onto the rail track and been hit by a train. The victim was rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the ICU the following day.

Coroner M.Nashim asked Galle police to produce the train driver at the next court proceedings on March 18. Galle JMO Dr P.A. Kiriella, who conducted the postmortem, said death was caused by injuries to the skull and profuse bleeding.
