SriLankan Airlines and its subsidiaries which were under the purview of President Maithripala Sirisena have been temporarily transferred to the Finance Ministry with effect from March 7, according to a gazette notification.

After the change of government on October 26 last year, the airline and its affiliated bodies were brought under the President’s purview. Until then, they had been under the purview of the then Public Enterprise and Development Minister Kabir Hashim.

However, these entities had remained under the President since then, though the UNF rule was restored following a Supreme Court decision in December last year.

Meanwhile, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has been gazetted under the Ministry of Defence, a portfolio the President holds. The TRC was earlier under the President’s Office.

The Ranmihithenna Mahinda Rajapaksa National Tele-cinema Park has been vested with the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs, while Sri Lanka Telecom and its subsidiaries now belong to the Ministry of Telecommunications, Foreign Employment and Sports.
