Several commemorative ceremonies are being organised to mark the 21st death anniversary of a veteran print and electronic media journalist and editor Gunadasa Liyanage in the coming weeks.

Fondly called Guli by his friends and colleagues, Mr. Liyanage served as the editor of Riviresa, Lankadeepa, Sathdina, Sinha Kodiya, Kalpana and Sivdesa.  He has also written several novels and short stories.

The Kalashuri Gunadasa Liyanage Memorial Foundation and the Katahanda Madya Kendraya will hold a religious ceremony titled ‘Guli Guna Suwanda’ on March 9 at the Sambodhi Viharaya in Colombo.  The Kotte Sri Naga Viharaya’s Chief Incumbent, the Ven.  Wathurawil Sri Sujatha Thera will deliver the main sermon, which will be telecast live on Bauddhaya Television and radio. One of the highlights of the ceremony will be the presentation of wheelchairs to disabled students. On March 20, the Horana Sri Palee Vidayala, his alma mater, will hold a commemorative ceremony.

As part of the ceremonies, several of his works, including Sirikatha Saha Wilmert, Suppression of the Press in Sri Lanka, Gini Walalla, and  Heta Pahe Peraliya will be published in book form.
