MGR Film Festival in Lanka
A film festival dedicated to South India’s most popular cinema and political icon, Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran or popularly known as MGR will be held in several cities from March 8 to 15.
Started as an actor, MGR continued to become a filmmaker, politician and was Tamil Nadu’s chief minister over a decade from 1977 to 1987.
Presented by Ceylon Theaters (Pvt) Ltd and distributed by Cinema Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd (CEL), digitally restored copies of three of the best films of MGR (acted along with co-starJayalalitha, ‘Enga Veettu Pillai (Our House Child) – 1965, ‘Nam Naadu’ (English: Our Country– 1969 and ‘Kudiyirundha Koyil’ (The Sacred Dwelling) -1968 will be screened in Colombo, Jaffna and other major cities.
Films will be screen at Majestic Colombo and Jaffna, Regal Nuwareliya and Gampaha Capitol – Armourstrret, CinecityMardana, Concord – Dehiwala, Rajah Jaffna, Saraswathi Trincomalee and Suganthi Batticaloa.
