The Sri Lanka Army is gearing up to bag some awards at a culinary competition held later this year — taking the task very seriously.

A group established as the International Volunteers Association of Sri Lanka with the current Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) Chairman Dilip De Silva and former Senior Vice President at Aitken Spence Hotels Gemunu Gunawardena at the helm will be training the army personnel on taking on the culinary challenge.

Mr. De Silva told the Business Times that they were impressed to find out that the Army was interested in competing against the industry at the Culinary Art Festival having already carried away two bronzes and two silver medals previously.

He noted that they would be getting all army camps to undergo internal training especially in the Northern region mainly those from Anuradhapura.

Following this internal training programme they would be conducting a competition to pick the best team to represent the Army at the culinary competition.

The categories they would be vying mainly would be in F&B and cookery with the FB category that would entail cocktails, mocktails, Flambe Dessert and liqueur coffees.
