Nishantha, Roshita steal the limelight
Royalist Shaheed Hilmy stole the limelight at the 30th Federation Cup Carrom Championship 2018 when he emerged champion in the Men’s Singles event while in the Women’s Singles’ Joseph Roshita of Sri Lanka Navy clinched the championship at the 30th Federation Cup Carrom Tournament, organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation.
The event, which was conducted under six categories was worked off at the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation Headquarters at Kohuwala. The significance of this year’s tournament was Nishantha Fernando of Sri Lanka Navy winning the Triple Crown by winning the Men’s Singles, Doubles partnering Chanaka Jeewan and Mixed Doubles with Joseph Roshita. In the Women’s category Joseph Roshita of Sri Lanka Navy stood above the others to win the Triple Crown in Women’s Singles, Doubles with Tharushi Himahansika and Mixed Doubles combining with Nishantha Fernando.
Schoolboy Hilmy sliced with ease to defeat Suraj Maduwantha of SL Army 2-0 and Roshita fought her way to beat Maduwanthi Gunadasa of SL Army 2-1 to grab the Men’s and Women’s crowns respectively. Over 350 players island-wide participated at this year’s edition where six ‘Slams’ were reported.
