A superb spell of spin bowling by off spinner Savindu Peiris and an entertaining unfinished opening stand of 101 runs highlighted the deciding match of the SLC Governor’s Trophy Two-Day cricket encounter between Nugegoda CC and Singha CC commenced at Surrey ground in Maggona yesterday.

Batting first Singha CC were dismissed for 232 in 52.2 overs. Hemal Koratota made a fighting century off 108 deliveries inclusive of a dozen of boundaries and a half a dozen of sixes and useful contributions by S. de Mel (46) and Rukshan Fernando (39) helped Singha post a respectable total. Singha batsmen found difficulty in handling the crafty off spinners of Savindu Peiris who bagged 5 for 57. The batsmen misread his flights and variations as the bowler made full use of his height to have them in all sorts of trouble. While Peiris kept one end tight Zainulabdeen, with figures of 2 for 26, supported from the other end.

Chasing the victory target the Nugegoda CC openers made merry with the Singha attack to put on an unfinished stand of 101 when bad light stopped play. Dilan Chamindu scoring a well calculated 52 and his partner Anushka Perera playing the sheet anchor role to remain on 41 at the end of the first day.

Both openers batted with authority, rotating the strike, which upset the plans of the skipper of the opposing side.

Winners of this match will be promoted to the Tier B segment of the Premier League.

In another match played yesterday at the Moors grounds, in reply to MAS Unichela SC’s first innings total of 207, Kandy Customs were 60 for 3 when bad light stopped play.

Both match will continue today.

Singha CC 232 all out in 52.2 overs (Hemal Koratota 101, S. De Mel 46, Rukshan Fernando 39, Savindu Peiris 5 for 57, Zainulabdeen 2 for 26)

Nugegoda CC 101 for no loss in 19 overs when bad light stopped play (Dilan Chandima 52 n.o., Anushka Perera 41 n.o.)
