Stolen electronic goods rise from the Weligama cemetery

A 33-year-old man who stole electronic items including laptops and mobile phones worth around Rs.2.7 m from a leading electronic goods showroom in Kollupitiya as well as from a shop in Galle and buried them in a cemetery, has been arrested by Galle Police.

He was arrested this week following a theft at the electronic goods showroom in Galle. Police said that on being interrogated it was revealed that he was responsible for the theft at Kollupitiya as well. From the Galle showroom, he had stolen goods worth over Rs. 1.5 m which included 15 Apple mobile phones.

The man was arrested on a tip off when he was hiding in an abandoned house in Galle Fort. The stolen goods were found in the Weligama cemetery after the suspect disclosed that he had buried them there. The suspect was identified as Thilanka Lasantha, a resident of Polhena, Matara.
The man is being held under remand custody by Galle Police and the case will be taken up on November 30.
