Royal in tense 1-0 win over S. Thomas’
Royal College Colombo beat S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia 1-0 in their 25th annual Royal-Thomian Football Encounter 2018 played at the Racecourse ground in Colombo last Saturday. Royal played outstandingly throughout the game to secure a tense win despite the Thomians striking regularly.
Royal struck the only goal of the game in the 37th minute and led the halftime 1-0 as they maintained the gap right until the end of the game. The Thomians missed a golden opportunity to equalise during the latter part of the game through a penalty but the target was off the posts.
Royal skipper Sakun Divyanga, who struck the only goal of the game, was adjudged the Best Player of the match while Royal custodian Ashrof Azad, who made quite a few stunning saves, was named the Best Goalkeeper.
Despite their misfortune in the main game, the Thomians were dominant in the junior age group matches. Their Under-16, Under-14 ‘A’ and ‘B’, Under-12 ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams won the respective games while the Under-10 match ended in a scoreless draw.
The Chief Guest of the awards ceremony was Rufki Wahid, the captain of the 1994 Royal College football team.
