Janakaraliya Cultural Foundation has commenced a diploma course to methodically instil professional skills in drama and cinema performance (including teles) script writing and direction. The group of resource persons who conduct the programme include some of the veterans in the relevant fields. They are Sudath Mahadivulwewa, Jerome de Silva, Ravindra Guruge, Rajitha Dissanayake, Dr. Saumya Liyanage, Prasannajith Abeysooriya, Dr. Kanchuka Dharmasiri, Tracy Holsinger, Jill Alone (An Israeli dramatic and cinematic expert) Prof. Sinnaiya Mounaguru, S. Sthyaseelan, Nelum Kooragalarachchi, Sanath Bandara Samarathunga, Dinushika Senavirathne and senior members of Janakaraliya Drama Group.

Training will be given to four teams consisting of 25 persons each from Chilaw, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Jaffna. In each location, there will be 10 X 05 days’ workshops. With the view to enhance, the knowledge of participants there will be sessions to enjoy and appraise aesthetic artistic creations and conduct dialogues on them. It is scheduled that at the conclusion, of the programme the groups from Chilaw, Anurahdapura, Polonnaruwa and Jaffna will produce four dramas and four telefilms.

The diploma course will be free of charge and it will be directed by Parakrama Niriella. During the studymeals and accomodation too will be provided free of charge e.
Janakaraliya Cultural Foundation, a Cooperating Member of International Theatre Institute affiliated to UNESCO, organized the project. Janakaraliya has been continuously undertaking to develop inclusive cultural practices in the Sri Lankan society for the past sixteen years. The German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) assists the project with financial support.
