Anatoly Karpov Chess Club’s 500th Camp on 20th Anniversary

Suneetha Wijesuriya, Woman FIDE Master & Instructor, conducted a highly successful Chess Coaching Camp, being the 500th Camp of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club (AKCC), at the 3rd Annual National Sports Exhibition of Sri Lanka SPORTEX 2018, organised by SPORTSINFO, at the BMICH recently.

Mrs Wijesuriya, founder President and Chief Instructor of the AKCC of the Russian Centre in Colombo, conducted this coaching camp on the invitation of SPORTSINFO Chairman-Managing Director Thilan Rangana, who was the chief organiser of SPORTEX 2018.

AKCC, a prestigious and active Chess Club in the island, celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year. It boasts of conducting the highest number of Chess Workshops islandwide, mainly by Wijesuriya.

At the opening of SPORTEX 2018 Exhibition, the AKCC organised a raffle draw to select 3 winners from the Chess players who solved the puzzle (White wins in 2 Moves) displayed on the demonstration board at the event.

1996 Cricket World Cup winning skipper and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, as Chief Guest and Russian Federation Embassy First Secretary and Colombo Russian Centre  Director Anastasia Khokhlova as Special Guest, presented Chess boards to the 3 winners, Methnula Hewawasam, Nethum Dulmika and Dehemi Belpage.
