Teacher’s mission to spread soccer in a rural school

With the Football World Cup in Russia is just finished and soccer fever is still in the air, ‘Goal’ a movie that narrates the story about a group of children in a rural village who enticed by the popular game is now being screened in theatres around the country.
Screenplay written and directed by Rohan Perera ‘Goal’ is comprised of a versatile cast including Jayalath Manorathna, Chandani Senevirathna, Kawshalya Fenando, Nayana Hettiarachchi, Jayani Senanayake, Anula Bulathsinhala, Lakshman Mendis and Saviour Kanishka.
‘Goal’ also introduces a group of child actors namely Devid Karunarathna, Rizan Naizer, Theshan Thushmika, Dananjaya Naveen, Mohomad Sham, Pavan Bimsara, Subhashini Jayarathna, KavinduKalhara and T. Sham Like many other schools in rural Sri Lanka, Millawitiya Junior School in Kaluwara Eliya also had minimum facilities for its students. The kids came to school, sat in their class in the mornings and wandered around the fields and lakes of the village in the afternoons.There were no clear aim or target for their future.
An unforeseen twist in their story occurs when Samarasekara Sir comes to Kaluwara Eliya. And he is compelled to teach literature to a bunch of twelve-year-old’s who thrive on creating havoc in school and outside.
Samarasekara Sir’s sheer determination drives him to form a football team with them. Things begin to change, and lives begin to brighten up as they embark on a journey together to change their own fate… Director of photography is Palitha Perera, editor Ajith Ramanayake, music director Suresh Maliyadde, production Manager is Raja Ranasinghe and NaradaThotagamuwa handled make up.
