The iconic Green Cabin restaurant on the Galle Road near Bambalapitiya is due to shut down on Tuesday, July 31 with a family dinner representing four generations.

The café which opened in the 1930s and later was owned by entrepreneur Cyril Rodrigo, has been the subject of discussion among the family representing the company’s business interests.

According to family circles, there has been no consensus on the way forward for the business. “Thus we have decided to sell our interests to one of our cousin’s who is running the business now,” one member, who declined to be named said.

A sales and purchase agreement is under preparation in which the business and the Green Cabin land is to be separated as the land carried greater value as an asset.

He said the land is being sold to business baron Harry Jayawardena’s Melstacorp Plc which has requested urgent vacant possession of the land.
Green Cabin is to be re-opened at a different location in the next 3-4 months.
