The ceremonial launch of the book ‘100 Years at Mount: History of S. Thomas’ College at Mount Lavinia 1918 – 2018’ will take place on June 19, at 6.30 p.m.in the College Main Hall. It will be published by the Warden of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.

This work of love captures the lows and highs of the college, which has stood for the past years at this iconic spot since its relocation from Mutwal in 1918, earning it the term of affection ‘School by the Sea.’ Dr.Nimal Sanderatne, an old boy of S. Thomas’ and a notable figure in socioeconomics in Sri Lanka, will be the Chief Guest.

The book consists of two parts, Part 1 being Rev’d Marc Billimoria’s 75 Years at Mount, which documents the history of the College from 1918 to early 1993, and Part 2 being its continuation up to the end of 2017. The book was written with the aim of setting a clear and unbiased record for the benefit of the future generations, with great pains taken to maintain accuracy.  A good knowledge of one’s history gives one a strong sense of identity. In this line of thought, the book will be reintroduced to the school curriculum as a part of the Academic Plan for this year.An extract from the Introduction by Rev’d Billimoria reads as follows:

“It is no less essential today that the present generation know where they have come from, so they know where they are going and how best they can get there. It is vital they have a sense of their history, their roots and their past in order that they may appreciate their present and press on to their future. It is with this hope that this volume 100 Years at Mount: History of S. Thomas’ College at Mount Lavinia 1918 – 2018 is offered to the present boys of the School.”

Copies of the book (Hardcover) will be available for sale at the launch for Rs. 2000 each.
