Saman returns to theatre with ‘Serada Sahodara’

Experienced playwright K. Saman Thushara’s newest stage play ‘Serada Sahodara’ with a cast comprising some of the leading stars will go on the boards today, April 8 at 6 pm at Negombo Town hall auditorium.

Based on Indian novelist Anil Barve’s novel ‘Thank you Mr. Glad’ the play is scripted by Ajith Hadley Perera and the music is directed by talented musician Visharadha Kanchana Jayasinghe. The costume designing of the play is by Shyama Perera.

The cast includes Niroshan Wijesinghe, Udeni Alwis, Amanda Peiris, Saman Hemaratna, Chemika Lakshani, Rajasinghe Loluwagoda, W. Gamini, Shyama Priyanthi, Akash Perera, Lahiru Wickremesinghe and Shamal Dilen.

Stage setting is designed by S. Neville de Silva, lighting by Gamini Hemachandra, make up by Saman Hemaratne, stage management Sudesh Nishantha, production executive Lahiru Wickremesinghe and ‘Suhada Sahodara’ is presented by Janapawana Cultural group.

The play revolves around a Marxist revolutionary who turned a prisoner and jailer. In the guise of development projects, the government acquires lands of the poor and continues to act undemocratically while violently crushing all dissenting views. The play narrates how a revolutionary leader is created and he is forced to take up arms for a good cause.
