The Ministry of Education (MoE) has topped the list of government ministries in their promptness to release information to the public, under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

According to the MoE, a survey conducted by the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) reveals that, of the 32 Ministries dealing with the public, Education, Public Administration and Health lead with their compliance with the public’s requests for information.

The MoE said it has taken all measures for speedy dissemination of information since last year, when a special unit was established within the MoE to address RTI requests.

The MoE also appointed a committee, involving all additional secretaries, for the prompt release of information. Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed all senior MoE officials to make it a priority, to release information to the public without delay.
The MoE urges the public to use the RTI Act to obtain information from the Education sector.
