School candidates, 15 years and above, sitting for the GCE O/L exam this year will be issued National Identity Cards (NIC) beginning from April, said Commissioner General of the Dept of Registration of Persons, P. Viyani Gunathialaka,

A detailed circular in this regard has been sent to all school principals islandwide. Applications, along with a copy of the birth certificate, certified by a District or Divisional Secretariat, and the required photographs, should reach the Department of the Registration of Persons, through the school principals, before March 31.

The Commissioner General has reiterated that applications should be sent before this date, to avoid delays and the rush that comes when principals send applications at the ‘last minute’. He added that, the Dept intends to issue around 350,000 NICs this year. - YY
