Two fine performances by Janith Liyanage and Sahan Nanayakkara helped Ragama CC record a first inning win over Lankan CC in the Premier Emerging League cricket tournament encounter played at Thurstan ground.

Janith cracked a 79 with nine boundaries and two sixes on day one for Ragama CC taking first lease of the wicket to make a modest score of 216 and the second day’s proceedings saw left arm spinner Sahan Nanayakkara grab four scalps to restrict Lankan CC for a score of 145.

Ragama CC batting the second time facing 40 overs was on 165 for 3 when rain put a stoppage to proceedings.

Meanwhile the other three matches that got underway at SSC ground, P. Sara Stadium and Maggona yesterday too was hampered by rain which forced the umpires to call off early.

Sri Lanka opener  and Test discard Kaushal Silva was in top form as he made an unbeaten 146 inclusive of 16 boundaries for SSC to end day one with a formidable score of 293 for 3.

Kaushal was involved in two fruitful partnerships first of 99 runs for the second wicket with Charith Asalanka and the other an unbeaten 99 runs for the fourth wicket with Kavindu Kulasekera.

Tamil Union’s bowling trio right arm pacies Pramod Madushan and Thilanga Udeeshana and left arm spinner Damitha Silva combined to share nine wickets between them to skittle out BRC batting first for a low score of 122 on day one in the match played at P. Sara Stadium.

Tamil Union was able to face only 22.2 overs making 57 for 3 when rain stopped play.

Right arm pacie Shanaka Sampath ended with a four wicket haul while left arm spinner and right arm pacie Vihanga Kalhara shared four wickets helping Kalutara TC bundle out Kurunegala YCC to a score of 127 runs at Surrey Village ground in Maggona.

Kalutara TC in their turn was on 31 for 1 before rain stopped play.
