Royalist Aabid Ismail was crowned as the National Scrabble Champion for 2017 when he defeated Indunil Amerasinghe 2 -1 in a best of 3 finals at this year’s National Scrabble Championship.

The main annual tournament of the Sri Lanka Scrabble League, the National Scrabble Championship on August 12 and 13, powered by Phoenix Industries Limited attracted 88 players.  It is an open event keenly contested by the young and senior players of the League.

Sixteen-year-old Aabid who is currently the highest rated scrabbler in the country exacted sweet revenge for his 1 – 2 defeat at the hands of Indunil in the finals of the National Scrabble Championship in 2016.

Lakshan Wanniarachchi emerged 3rd followed by Radinka Dissanayake (Bishops College) and Vignesh Pirapaharan (Lyceum International School, Panadura) who emerged 4th and 5th respectively.

Indunil also won the award for the highest word score while Royalist Nikesh Ravindira won the award for the highest game score.
