The sport I liked most
My favourite sport is badminton. I play badminton with my sister. It is a game where either two people, opposing teams of either one or two people in a doubles match, use a racquet to hit a shuttlecock back and forth over a net, for points. The team with the highest points wins. The shuttlecock is a feathered or plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Shuttlecocks may have a high speed compared to the balls in other racquet sports.
Badminton was first played in the 19th century. Then the game was developed in 1870’s by British India from the earlier game Battledore and Shuttlecock. European play came to be dominated by Denmark but the game has now become very popular in Asia, with recent competition dominated by China.
Since 1992, badminton has been a Summer Olympic sport with five events; men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The highest governing body in badminton is the Badminton World Federation.
I love badminton.

Eight years pass by…
Eight years ago, I remember,
Someone told me that in the month of September,
A school was born and kindled learning fires
And its name was dear mother Horizon.

Three years pass, I join the school,
I learn who’s who and the school rules,
But little did I know that as time goes by
I’d then be able to see dear Horizon shine.

She’d show her students to the light,
Kindling knowledge burning bright
And let them share the home that’s hers;
But don’t get me wrong, all good deeds,
she still does.

I’m not trying to be complimentary,
But she’d show her children their full potential.
Sports and choirs and clubs galore,
And now we’re starting to have even more!

Loving teachers and amazing friends,
Life at any school is fun – with no end
But like other schools, we all had to maintain
Mother Horizon surely taught us that, and it was discipline.

Today I say, to me
Nothing has changed dear Horizon thee,
For all your hard work all these years,
I wish you a happy eighth birthday
And so do my peers,

Horizon College International,
I think you’re the best,
May you always and forever
Be greatly blessed!

My neighbour’s name is Nicola and she teaches me elocution. I first went to her house when we moved into a new house next door to her. During that visit I even fell asleep on her lap.
I see her outside my window and I wave to her. One day when I had elocution, my big dog bit her. She teaches me English grammar. We invited her for dinner at my house on a Saturday night on my birthday. Nicola came and looked after me when my mother was in hospital.

A visit to an ancient city
Last week, My family and I went on a trip to Anuradhapura. We started this journey on August 8.
We saw many ancient temples such as Ruwanweliseya, Mirisawetiya, Abhayagiriya, Thuparamaya and many more. We also saw Nelum Pokuna and Sandakadapahana.

I gained knowledge about the temples and some kings. It took three days to visit all these ancient temples.
At last we ended the journey on August 11. It was an enjoyable trip.

Goodbye Grade Six
As this is our academic year’s end here at Lyceum, in August the students are promoted to upper grades. So, we all have to leave the classes. We were all sad
to leave the teachers. My favourite teacher was
Mr. Ramith Dheerasekara who taught us English.
I also can’t forget the trips we made for whale watching at Mirissa and the annual camp was also excellent. I remember the fun night party at 1 o’clock with Mr. Ramith and the songs we sang banging on the doors. Our exhibition day where all the boys were shouting and some got punished and even the exam days, all were so much fun.
But as our teachers’ say, “It is life and we have to meet and we have to leave”. So at last, with a heavy heart I say, “Goodbye Grade Six!”

My hobby
My hobby is planting flowers. I love flowers very much. Wherever I go, I pick flowers and plant in my garden. Every morning I put water to them. Once a week I put fertilizer for them.
There are many kinds of flowers in my garden. There are colourful flowers in my garden such as; roses, jasmine, anthuriums etc. A pleasant smell comes from the flowers. Butterflies come and suck nectar from the flowers. In the afternoon I pick flowers and go to the temple. In my leisure time, I spend time in my garden with the flowers.

Cricket tour
After so many hard practice sessions, the big day came. Last Thursday, we went for a cricket tour for four days to Kurunegala and Kandy. First we went to Kurunegala and played in Welagedara Stadium. Then we went to Kandy and played in Asgiriya Stadium. It was the first experience that we played in an international stadium as an Under 13 team.

The whole four days tour gave us a wonderful experience to our lives. Away from home, staying with teammates, sharing and caring for each other was a great thing. We won some matches and lost some matches too,but the experience we gathered was enormous.

I was so excited, as being the captain of my team, the things we did, all counted for the match. Anyhow my teammates and I did the best to achieve. I want to say a big thank you to our coach who took a big effort to make us what we are and to our master who looked after us all the time. God Bless our coach, our master and our parents who always backed us, encouraged us towards the sport we love, Cricket.
