The College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka (CCPSL) will hold its 22nd Annual Scientific Session from August 30 to September 2.

While the theme of the sessions is ‘Strengthening the health system for improving quality of care and patient safety’, the inauguration will be on August 30 at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Medical Association in Colombo 7 followed by the sessions on September 1 and 2 at Pegasus Reef Hotel, Wattala.

The CCPSL is led by President Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena, while his team comprises Vice President Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirane; Secretary Dr. Shiromi Maduwage; Assistant Secretary Dr. Santhushya Fernando; Treasurer Dr. Inoka Suraweera; Editor Dr. Shreenika Weliange; and President-Elect Dr. Hemantha Herath.

The council members are Dr. S.M. Arnold, Dr. Palitha Karunapema, Dr. Anoma Basnayakke, Dr. Nimal Shantha, Dr. Nethanjali Mapitigama, Dr. Virgini Mallawarachchi, Prof. Pushpa Jayawardena, Dr. Suraj Perera and Dr. Sameera Senanayake.

The CCPSL is the foremost professional body of the Public Health Practitioners in Sri Lanka. The public health programmes are designed to meet different needs in changing socio-demography, epidemiology and environmental issues. The main focus areas are nutrition, food safety, environmental and occupational health, non-communicable diseases, health promotion and advocacy, cancer control programme, mental health, disaster management, central planning functions (Management Development and Planning Unit), programmes relevant to adopting a life course approach (the Family Health Bureau and the Directorate of Youth, Elderly and Disabled) and vector-control programmes.
