Dua Lipa strikes gold with ‘New Rules’

Dua Lipa has struck gold with her song ‘New Rules’. The song took a four notch climb to the top of the UK singles chart to give the 22 year old her first UK No: 1 hit. Dua Lipa who is of Kosovan origin had released ‘New Rules’ on 17th July. The song began its chart life at No: 75 before steady climbing to 36, 19, 9 and 5 and reaching the top spot.

The EDM/ tropical house/ europop track is co- written by Caroline Ailin, Emily Warren, and Ian Kirkpatrick with the latter being the producer as well. ‘New Rules’ is taken from Lipa’s debut self titled album. She has released seven singles so far from the album with two songs ‘Be The One’ reaching No: 9 and now two years later ‘New Rules’ hitting the bulleye. She was featured on Sean Paul’s top 10 hit ‘No Lie’ in 2015 and also on the Grenfell charity No: 1 hit ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ this year. Dua Lipa has become the first solo female artist to score a No:1 song on the UK singles chart since Adele’s ‘Hello’ in October 2016.

Pink has returned to the UK top 10 after four years with the pop track ‘What About Us’. The song took a big leap from 85 to No: 5 this week. It’s the lead single from her forthcoming album ‘Beautiful Trauma’. The slight club track is produced by Steve Mac and is the 18th top 10 hit for the US artist on the UK singles chart. Pink’s last UK top 10 hit was ‘Just Give A Reason’ featuring Nate Ruess which peaked at No: 2 in 2013.
Louis Tomlinson, Bebe Rexha and the Digital Farm Animals took a two point climb to reach the top 10 with ‘Back To You’. The song is the second solo release by the One Direction member.

The mid tempo/ pop track, was released on 21st July. The song began its chart journey at 13 then slipped a notch to 14 and then gained momentum rising to 12 and No: 10 this week.

US singer Bebe Rexha sings the opening verse with Tomlinson moving on the second verse. British DJ Digital Farm Animals provides music on the track. ‘Back To You’ is co-produced by Digital Farm Animals, whose real name is Nicholas Gale with Tommy Danvers. ‘Back To You’ is Tomlinson’s second top hit. The song follows ‘Just Hold On’ with Steve Aoki which peaked at No: 2 late last year, shortly after his mother’s demise.

Harry Styles is to have his own show on BBC radio. The One Direction member will be featured on an one hour show where he will perform his solo material from his self titled debut album. Harry Styles At The BBC will be presented by Nick Grimshaw and will air in November.
