The August Leap
Years of rigorous preparation
Tedious work
(too heavy for a small head)
Long study hours
Training and competition
School, classes
Classes, school
Stacks and stacks of paper
With the August Leap in sight
Hide and seek and a plunge into muddy water
Are distant pleasures….
Finally they sit,
With an over burdened brain,
Blurring the dreams of a childhood deprived,
To take the Big Leap,
The hunt for a “Good” school
The August Leap……

Motionless Leap
Mothers’ darlings,
Yet little terrors all,
Shouting, jumping, running around,
As we trot around.
Calming, soothing,
Forcing medicine down little throats
Angry with us, then become friends again.
Memories fading away.
Once they leave with a happy wave.
Abandoned by family,
Yet smothered with love,
By all staff in the ward,
You sit in your cot,
Observing, giggling with glee,
Enjoying the hullabaloo.
No walking, jumping or running for you.
A lovely smile for us,
As we approach whenever,
Do you know little angel,
That you have leaped into our hearts,
To stay there for ever?

Winning Leap
She leaped and danced
Around me,
Chasing imaginary butterflies.
“My child, be lady-like”.
This advice
Fell on deaf ears.
Her legs knew, how to perform
Graceful leaps.
My legs with arthritis,
Never attempted to leap.
Will she inherit it.
Years later,
She leaped and danced
Around her husband
Singing aloud.
He beamed, encouraging her.
Today, she actually walked
Slowly, towards me.
Arthritis?
My heart sank.
Few feet away,
She threw a life line,
Made of silver bells
Singing news.
My swollen legs
Took a leap
Towards her
Realizing the joy of
Leaping to grandmotherhood.

Leap
After the heavy rain, she was trying to walk past
The puddles of water on the foot path;
When quite suddenly, her little one broke free of her,
Shouting with glee, “Can I ma, can I?”
She knew that even without her permission,
Her little mite was going to mischievously
Jump the puddles…..
‘Okay darling, but be careful O.K?’ she replied.
Even before she could blink, he ran on
Leaping over several puddles whooping
With unconcealed delight….

Mischievous self
Standing on the rock
He was looking down at the marvel,
A basin like place in the stream
Gleaming in silver in the sun light.
A monkey broke the silence
Clutching its baby tightly
Jumped in and enjoyed a cool bath.
His mischievous self
Pushed him down at once
With no chance to debate,
The leap was safe, he thought
But ended in a damage
Lost one tooth only
Leaving a memory throughout life.
