Well-known journalist, lyricist, film and teledrama director Rodney Widanapathirana’s newest film ‘Hima Tharaka’ (Snowy Stars) directed by Rodney Widanapathirana is now being screened at Chithra cinema, Kalutara.

With a cast of award-winning stars ‘Hima Tharaka’ features Jagath Chamila who won the Best Actor at New York International Film festival, Nadee Chandrasekara, Amarasiri Kalansuriya, Wimal Alahakoon, Maureen Charuni, Wasanthi Gunarathna, Miyuri Samarasinghe and Manel Wanaguru in the stellar cast.

Veteran actor Amarasiri Kalansuriya returns to cinema with this film and starting with ‘Shillpa Denu Mena’, Amarasiri had a role in almost every film made by Rodney. Kalansuriiya played in the lead opposite Wasanthi Chathurani in ‘Shilpa Denu Mena’.

However the Sri Lankans viewers were not fortunate enough to experience this film as both positives and negatives were destroyed while they were kept post-production at Sarasaviya studio Kelaniya. Kalansuriya was also one of Rodney’s favourite stars.

‘Hima Tharaka’, a suspenseful story revolves around a family which lives in England. The family returns to Sri Lanka but faced various problems. The problems are started in England but they continue in Sri Lanka as well.

They get aggravated specially due to the attitude of the people who live in Sri Lanka and have a misconception about lives of locals living in foreign countries.

Behind the screen cinematography of ‘Hima Tharaka is handled by Kithsiri Hewage and Ranga kariyawasam and it is edited by Gayan Sampath and Mahendra Senarathna.

Produced by Kanthi Alahakone, ‘Hima Tharaka’ is the first script written by Marlon Widanapathirana.
The film was shot in and around the locations in Moronthuduwa, Bandaragama.

Started as the third assistant director of ‘Chanchala Rekha’ directed by Sena Samarasinghe, Rodney has made three films. His previous film ‘Ira Sevaya’ was released last year.

Rodney has also started his latest film in which Nayanaya Kumari plays a lead role. Presneted as an entertaining movie, the film is yet to be named.
