YLE Certificate Awards Ceremony
JMC College International had its YLE Certificate awarding ceremony on March 1, 2017 at the JMC Management Centre. Our special guests were  Mr. Roshan Perera the Co-ordinating Officer of Cambridge Exams and the Head of Administration JMC
Mr. Naleen C. Kumara.

YLE means Young Learners English. It’s a Cambridge University course. It has three parts. They are Starters, Movers and Flyers. I came to Movers from Starters. I learned a lot of things from Starters. Our Starters class teacher was Miss. Taniya Warnakula. We made some booklets. Because of YLE we learned to use computers and internet.
I got the first place in the island in YLE. I am very happy about it. I thank our principal, vice-principal, our YLE class teacher, all our teachers and my parents for helping me in many ways.

Rabbits
Rabbits are the most popular pets, after dogs and cats. They are small mammals with whiskers and long ears. It also has a fluffy tail called a bob.

We call the male rabbit a buck and a female rabbit a doe. Rabbits like to eat vegetables and hay. Carrot is their favourite food.
In the wild, rabbits live in burrows. Rabbits live in groups. I have heard that they are more active at dusk and dawn. Rabbits purr when they are content. Even though that is different from a cat purr, it is also cute. Rabbits are supposed to be clean as cats. They live for about
8 – 10 years. Rabbits can run fast.

My favourite toy is a stuffed rabbit and its name is ‘Chuki’. It is also cute as a real rabbit. I like to play with a real rabbit too. Because I believe they are amazingly awesome pets.

Newspapers and television
Media from television and newspapers are very useful to us but they differ a lot. The television gives us quick, direct news about something.
It shows us what happened exactly. They also show what witnesses or people who faced the case say about it. But the disadvantage is that it is temporary. We won’t be able to see the message again once it is gone.
The newspaper gives us messages too. It gives a lot of information about a certain case, it has got many pictures in detail, and it also can be referred at any time. It is a good source of knowledge too. Its disadvantage is that it is more late than the news from the television. The television media tells us about the case just as they got to know about it. But the newspaper gives us the message a day after the case happened.
So which media is better? It is not certain. The television media is good in a verbal manner and the newspaper is better for people who usually read.

Vesak Festival
From an overseas reader
Vesak is a very important festival. Our religious leader Lord Buddha was born on Vesak poya day. He was enlightened on Vesak poya day. He attained Parinibbana on Vesak poya day. So Buddhists are happy to celebrate Vesak Festival.
We decorate our homes with Vesak lanterns and flags. We go to temple in white clothes. We observe sil. We give food to poor people. At night we can see pandals of Lord Buddha’s Jathaka stories. We celebrate Vesak festival for a period of a week. We can see a full moon on Vesak. We have Vesak dramas and Vesak lantern competitions. We sing songs about Lord Buddha’s good qualities.

A dedicated teacher
She is one of the dedicated teachers among other teachers in our school. Actually a teacher means a person who guides other people in the correct path. Mrs. Ramona Silva is considered as a special teacher to the school and personally to me.

Ramona teacher is liked by everyone in the school. She a teacher who possesses all the qualities a teacher needs. She is my favourite teacher.
She is my second mother. In the period of 20 years of teaching she lighted many children’s lives. This perfect teacher only expects the development of the children. She sacrifices her time, energy to the development of the children and the school. She educates the children in English language and literature. She teaches us how to face challenges successfully. Teacher Ramona is very happy when the children get good results.

She is an eloquent English–speaking teacher who is ready to help the children every moment. She represents every event of the school and gives her full support. She guided me to win competitions in the Funday Times and others.
Teacher Ramona is not just a teacher. So, I’m very lucky to be a student of this dedicated teacher.
