Shilpa Kala, the India- Sri Lanka exhibition of traditional handicrafts and textiles opened on May 25 at the BMICH’s Mihilaka Medura with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, and Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu present at the opening along with Jaya Jaitley and Buddhi Keerthisena who played an important part in organising the exhibition.

In his address, the Indian High Commissioner said Shilpa Kala was a unique event and urged Sri Lanka to benefit at a global level by partnering with resurgent India including in the field of handicrafts. “Partnership would help Sri Lanka market her products to a larger audience. India is a huge market for Sri Lankan handicraft products!” he said, citing the fact that India continues to be the largest source of tourists into Sri Lanka. “Efforts like Shilpa Kala would attract more tourists and strengthen our timeless links of history, religion and culture and people,” he added.

Shilpa Kala 2017 is on today from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m.
